The Welsh Society of Vancouver can trace its roots back to 1908 when the first Welsh Society, "The Cymrodorion Society", was formed in Vancouver by Welsh immigrants and their descendants. This group was instrumental in introducing Welsh culture and tradition to their new country. Details about the activities of a Choir founded by the Welsh settlers in Blackstone in 1886, and nurtured by Lewis Thomas from Tal y Bont near Aberythwyth -- Thomas was 'the Coal King' of Ipswich. The Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir still sings in Welsh as well as English, and in five other languages as well.
